At the Training Institute at Forge, we offer internships for students currently enrolled in masters level and PhD programs. The Training Institute is guided by PhD-level leaders who help ensure high-quality training and thoughtful mentorship.
Trainees join a collaborative, supportive environment that values curiosity and growth. With a commitment to development, the program creates an experience full of enthusiasm, understanding, and collaboration. The Training Institute accepts interns in our Commerce City and Colorado Springs locations.

At Forge Counseling Collective, we provide a comprehensive, supportive practicum experience that helps students thrive in their early clinical training. Each student is paired with a dedicated practicum instructor, receives an appropriate caseload, and engages in session recording and live session observation for reflective learning and real-time insight.
Practicum students participate in regular case consultations, ongoing educational opportunities, and a collaborative group learning environment that encourages shared growth and problem-solving. Our program builds a strong foundation in clinical practice, preparing students to transition confidently into internship and beyond.

Masters Level Internship
At Forge Counseling Collective, we offer robust graduate-level internships—for Masters and PhD students—that prepare students for successful clinical careers. Forge is an approved internship site for multiple Colorado universities and continues to expand its partnerships.
Interns commit to at least two semesters, with a full year recommended for the most comprehensive training. Training Includes:
Administrative experience and caseload management
Psychodiagnostic intakes and assessment
Peer and licensed-clinician case consultation
Supervision with multiple experienced team members
Opportunities to observe licensed professionals
$500 monthly stipend to help with housing, food, transportation, and other essentials.
This immersive program equips interns with the skills, confidence, and real-world experience needed to bridge the gap between the classroom and professional clinical practice.

Doctoral Level Internship
We offer exemplary supervision informed by the advanced training and experience of several of our clinicians in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES). For those pursuing doctoral-level training in CES, we are eager to support you in completing the variety of internship hours required for your program. Internship components include:
Research: Engage in meaningful research projects that contribute to the advancement of counseling practices and education.
Consultation: Gain hands-on experience in providing consultation services, both within our collective and potentially with external organizations.
Leadership: Develop leadership skills through involvement in our team’s decision-making processes and strategic initiatives.
Supervision: Receive and provide supervision, refining your skills in guiding and mentoring others in their clinical practice.
Clinical Hours: Continue to develop and apply your clinical expertise through direct client interaction, ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive internship experience.

We are interested in counselors in training that are looking to really invest in their clinical growth across the counselor developmental spectrum. An ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate clinical skills in working with clients, self-awareness, and openness to feedback. Those who want to be a part of and integrate into our collective team of passionate clinicians. We are especially interested in folks who have previous work experience outside of the private practice setting and are interested in community engagement.

We are a team and family! Counselor development is also about the development of the self, and we nourish both. There are several opportunities for continued development outside of the therapy chair. There is a lot more to private practice than just seeing clients, and that is reflected in your training.

Interns are expected to commit approximately 15–25 hours per week, depending on caseload and training requirements. This includes client sessions, documentation, supervision, trainings, and team meetings. Schedules are collaboratively built but must align with client availability and practice needs, including some afternoon and early evening hours.

Interns typically build to 8–12 clients per week, with some variation depending on availability and fit. Caseloads generally begin building within the first few weeks, and we actively support interns in filling their schedules through structured intake flow and referrals.

Interns primarily see clients in person, as Forge Counseling Collective is a majority in-person practice. Some opportunities for telehealth may be available depending on client need, location, and clinician readiness. Expectations may vary by site and supervisor.

Interns work with a diverse range of clients, including children, adolescents, and adults, depending on training goals and site placement. Work with couples and families, as well as young children, requires additional systems-based training and/or play therapy training and occurs only when interns have the appropriate preparation and supervision.
Common presenting concerns include anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment-related concerns, family and relational issues, life transitions, and emotion regulation difficulties.

Supervision is provided in accordance with DORA and program requirements and includes:
Weekly individual supervision with a licensed supervisor
Bi weekly intern group sup with a licensed supervisor
Monthly group supervision and specialty supervision as applicable
Supervisors are fully licensed clinicians with experience in training and supervision.

Interns receive access to ongoing clinical trainings, workshops, and consultation, which may include topics such as trauma-informed care, play therapy foundations, couples and family work, documentation and compliance, and professional development. Interns are integrated into a learning-focused clinical environment with exposure to multiple modalities.

Potentially, yes. While employment is not guaranteed, Forge Counseling Collective regularly considers interns for post-graduate or extern positions when there is strong mutual fit, demonstrated professionalism, and practice need.
