ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"I believe that change... although painful and challenging at times, is the only consistent thing about life. Our ability to acclimate to change is vital, although not easy.  My personal belief is that EVERYONE has the innate capacity for change and growth, even through life's toughest curve balls!

I hold a firm belief that the client is the expert, as they have lived and lead their own lives. Paying respect to that, I conceptualize my role as a counselor based on a philosophy that it is crucial the counselor focuses on providing an EMPATHIC & GENUINE foundation for the client and therapist relationship to build upon.

This authentic counseling environment allows clients to grow and connect on a more profound and meaningful level. Connecting and changing negative influences in their lives. As a result of this growth, clients increase their ability to cope through hard times, and develop a better understanding and appreciation of their self, and feelings."

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"I work with adults, adolescents, and children who are in need of a safe space to process past or current struggles in life. The client determines how quickly we work towards positive change, and I strive to provide a healing and validating presence. I will be authentic and empathic in my interactions with you, and we may even have some fun along the way!

I firmly believe that you are the expert in your life. While I can and will share what I know if I think it might help you, I look forward to helping you connect more with yourself. I believe we each have an innate intuitive voice inside that can direct us towards healing, and I look forward to helping you notice and listen to yours.

In addition to individual counseling, I also provide supervision to counselors working towards licensure, and research consultation to those working on research studies, manuscripts, or dissertations.

Areas in which I have a particular interest or additional training include working with LGBTQIA+ clients, child-centered play therapy, TF-CBT for children, and Relational-Cultural Therapy."

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"Be careful of the stories you tell about yourself, or those others tell about you because eventually, those stories can live you.”

My practice is rooted in creating a safe and trusting environment so we can unpack the prevalence of the problem you may be struggling with in your life. People are not the problem, the problem is the problem and I seek to provide room from which you can view the problem as something outside of you that is impacting your life, not as a deficiency within yourself.

I believe that you as a unique human are the expert in your life and how you would like a change to look in your life. The problems we struggle with seek to define and marginalize our identities as humans. The power that various problems seek to have in our lives can leave us feeling lost, helpless, and alone. Counseling can be a great place to begin to separate our identities from our struggles, where the problem does not get to define us as unique humans. My goal is to join you in this process and support the creation of a new identity and counterstory, where the problem no longer gets to hold the mirror from which your reflections are seen."

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"I believe that counseling is designed to help us through the challenges we face and to use those challenges to grow and develop into our own unique person. Each individual is a result of our own experiences, and while we may connect with others with similar tales, it is important to remember that we still possess an individuality that must be recognized and heard. By learning to value and appreciate the things that “make you, you,” it is my hope that my clients will develop a strong sense of self-worth and continue on to lead a meaningful and fulfilled life.

As a Counselor, it is my role to encourage you along the way to self-discovery and healing through developing and maintaining a relationship with open and honest communication. Counseling can often be viewed as scary, sterile, and judgmental; I believe that none of these descriptions exist in a successful counseling relationship. The basis of any therapeutic relationship is a foundation of trust and genuineness to foster change, and with commitment and dedication it can be achieve

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"My clinical approach is through the lens of relationships.  I believe that we are all built as relational creatures and as such, our best selves are found when we feel connected to others in healthy appropriate ways.  With this in mind, I want to help my clients repair relationships that already exist or build new ones as they process and change through their time in counseling.  I also believe this applies to the relationship between myself as a counselor and my clients. I hope to create a setting in therapy where my clients can come and feel heard, guided, and empowered to increase their ability to handle what life may throw at us.  I also believe that often being able to explore significant past relationships can be helpful in bringing awareness to what has shaped us into who we are today.

Through my time at the University of Colorado Denver, I have come to a greater understanding of how diverse and unique we all are as humans and I believe that I can work with a variety of clients from individuals to couples to families.  I have an emphasis in couples and family therapy, while I have also gained experience working with individuals."

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

In the sea of white women who want to talk about your feelings: Here I am. Wildly curious, outrageously non-judgmental, and can empathize like it's my job (because it is). If it feels like you've got a one-way ticket on the struggle bus, I'm here to respectfully disagree. You've got this. And I mean that even if it's crushing depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, existential crisis, mommy/daddy/other relationship issues, substance abuse, loneliness, or systemic oppression (special shoutout to people of color and my queer/LGBTQIA fam).

I work to understand the systems from which we all come and I appreciate how much our different experiences can shape us. I enjoy working with folks from all walks of life and I'll meet you exactly where you are. I hope to empower the masses in becoming their authentic and congruent selves, so you can go live your best gosh damn lives.

In summary: I'll hold the hope when you can't. Human connection has healing juju and we're gonna find it. We'll go at your pace. We'll laugh, we'll cry, we'll try to figure some shit out. It'll be easy sometimes, it'll be hard sometimes, and it'll definitely be worth it.

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

“Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth.” – Alan Watts. Sounds pretty pointless and dumb to me (and probably to dentists everywhere). Attempting to work on yourself alone only takes you so far and really drags out the Suffer-Fest. That’s what therapy is all about; an unbiased, collaborative relationship, preferably with someone who actually gives a shit (me, hi), which can help you to understand and accept yourself fully.

Spoiler alert: Addiction, codependence, depression/anxiety, perfectionism, material striving, control issues, and self-criticism etc. are behaviors—or parts of you—that serve a purpose. In getting to know these parts, they will have less power to screw up your life and you will be more connected to your true Self (spiritual woo-woo stuff).

I would’ve never become a therapist if I hadn't experienced the hell of addiction firsthand. Being entirely humbled by booze forced me to ask for help, which led to a spiritual transformation and dedicating my life to the service of others. I’ll work with anyone, as I believe therapy is all about the right relationship. And I really enjoy working with weirdoes and people that struggle fitting into boxes. I mean therapy has got to be better than the dentist, right?

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

"I believe humans flourish in a supportive environment where they can safely explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.  Every person and their experiences are unique. With this understanding, I approach counseling from the perspective that the client is the expert on their own life. I view my role as one of a supportive listener who is there to offer insight and validation around the issues you are struggling with. Coping strategies are often reactionary and develop as a way to protects one’s self. In therapy, it can be helpful to consider how these behaviors are serving you and how we can work together to create new, healthful ones. You have within you the ability to thrive and to strive to live your best life. Together, we can discover what that looks like for you and develop goals to help you get there."

ABOUT MY
Clinical Approach

“When we attune with others we allow our own internal state to shift, to come to resonate with the inner world of another. This resonance is at the heart of the important sense of “feeling felt” that emerges in close relationships. Children need attunement to feel secure and to develop well, and throughout our lives we need attunement to feel close and connected.” -Dr. Dan Siegel

The experiences we have in our lives shape how we feel, react, and interact with the world.  Though each of us finds our own path through life’s transitions, challenges, and obstacles, every human being comes into this world seeking safety and connection.  Attending to these basic needs in the therapeutic relationship and in our everyday lives is a fundamental part of the healing process.

Trust is the cornerstone of any relationship.  I work hard to attune with my clients in order to create an atmosphere where clients feel heard, seen, and “felt.” I check in regularly with my clients and make small shifts and adjustments. Counseling is a spontaneous process that can be aided by body awareness, movement, mindfulness, humor, role-play, artistic materials and media, or anything that becomes relevant and meaningful in the moment.

I value honesty and authenticity, and my willingness to be present and sit with another’s experience helps me to create a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients. Special interests include trauma, anxiety, relationship concerns, sexuality and sex-positivity, body image, parenting, and family conflict.

My prior experience includes years working with children and families as an elementary school teacher, and over a decade of experience living in an ashram as a certified yoga and meditation instructor. I work with adults, teens, and children.
